Type 02

Explorer

You look for new ideas and possibilities.

About the Explorer

You keep asking questions even when an answer seems settled. You might suggest a different approach, question an assumption, or notice an idea worth trying.

You may enjoy a new hobby, rethink a familiar routine, or look for another explanation for a disagreement. At work, you might ask whether there is another solution when everyone has accepted the first one that works.

Strengths in everyday life

Finding another approach

You can look at a problem in a different way and suggest options that the usual approach misses.

Questioning assumptions

You ask what people know and what they are assuming. This can help you rethink a habit or understand why someone sees things differently.

Combining ideas

You draw on ideas from different subjects to suggest something new. This can lead to a different solution rather than another version of the same one.

What can get in the way

Too many suggestions can make it hard to decide what to try. When you keep adding questions or alternatives, help people see which ones matter most now.

Looking for more options can become a way to delay choosing. Making a workable choice and trying it can teach you more than continuing to think through every possibility.

Understanding each other

With an Explorer, listen to questions and unfamiliar suggestions. When you need to make a decision together, agree on a time to choose so you can explore without delaying indefinitely.

If you are an Explorer, say whether you are thinking aloud or asking to change an agreed plan. Give the current option a fair try before suggesting another one.

Questions worth asking

  1. Which assumption should I check?
  2. What small test could help answer this question?
  3. Am I finding a useful alternative, or putting off a decision?
