Type 06
Harmonizer
You help people speak honestly and listen to each other.
About the Harmonizer
You pay attention to how people feel during a conversation. You may notice a change in someone's tone, a hesitation, or something they seem to be struggling to say.
With friends, family, or colleagues, you can help people keep talking when they disagree by listening carefully. Understanding their feelings may bring you closer, as long as you can express your own feelings too.
Strengths in everyday life
Noticing how people feel
You notice when someone's tone or willingness to speak changes. It may suggest that they feel ignored, are unsure, or want a chance to say something.
Finding what people agree on
You try to understand what matters to each person in a disagreement. This can help them see the concerns or priorities they share.
Helping people speak honestly
When you are patient with people, they may feel less defensive. They may find it easier to explain what they really think or feel without turning the conversation into an argument.
What can get in the way
You may avoid a necessary disagreement because you worry about the relationship. Speaking honestly and respectfully can help address a concern that staying quiet leaves unresolved.
You may wear yourself out trying to soothe everyone or settle their problems. You can listen and help without being responsible for how everyone feels.
Understanding each other
With a Harmonizer, ask what they think as well as how they understand other people's views. Give them time to express their own position, even when it differs from yours.
If you are a Harmonizer, say what you need before trying to settle a disagreement. You can listen with care and still set limits on how much you can take on.
Questions worth asking
- What matters to this person in the disagreement?
- Am I helping people speak honestly, or trying to stop anyone feeling uncomfortable?
- What do I think before I try to help everyone agree?
